Itoigawa Geopark
Global Geopark of UNESCO
■Apart from the word ‘Geopark’ used by Itoigawa since 1991,UNESCO also started to use the same term from 1997. According to the definition by UNESCO, a ‘Geopark’is a geographycal area or space of geological heritage site. And it is necessary this area also includes sites of archaeological, ecological cultural value. Meanwhile Geopark used by Itoigawa is limited to the geological areas.
